Egy Maulana Vikri merupakan satu dari tiga pemain yang mendapatkan panggilan mengikuti pemusatan latihan sebelum Piala AFF U-22 2019. Bersama Ezra Walian dan Saddil Ramdani, Egy tak bisa bergabung karena tak mendapatkan izin dari klub yang dibelanya. Ketiga pemain itu memang berkiprah di luar negeri.
Setelah Timnas Indonesia U-22 menjadi juara Piala AFF U-22 2019, pelatih Indra Sjafri merencanakan langsung menggelar pemusatan latihan jelang kualifikasi Piala AFC U-23 2020 mulai Sabtu (2/3/2019).
Indra Sjafri rencananya akan memanggil tujuh pemain baru untuk melengkapi skuat Garuda Muda menjadi 30 orang yang mengikuti pemusatan latihan.
Ketika ditanya mengenai kemungkinan ketiga pemain yang berkiprah di luar negeri dipanggil untuk mengikuti pemusatan latihan Timnas Indonesia U-22 jelang kualifikasi Piala AFC U-23 2020, Sekjen PSSI, Ratu Tisha Destria, menyebut baru Egy Maulana Vikri yang sudah dipastikan bakal bergabung.
"Kami sudah bersurat dengan klub-klub Egy, Ezra, dan Saddil bermain. Egy sudah dikonfirmasi akan datang sekitar 3 atau 4 Maret. Sementara Ezra dan Saddil, kami masih dalam proses komunikasi lebih lanjut," ujar Ratu Tisha Destria setelah penyambutan Timnas Indonesia U-22 di Bandar Udara Internasional Soekarno-Hatta, Rabu malam (27/2/2019).
"Harapannya, tentu mereka semua bisa bergabung dalam pemusatan latihan kali ini. Turnamen kualifikasi ini masuk dalam kalender FIFA, jadi tentu akan sangat penting bagi kami untuk melakukan persiapan. Dilihat nanti bagaimana perkembangannya," lanjut Tisha.
Pemusatan latihan Timnas Indonesia U-22 digelar mulai 2 Maret selama kurang lebih tiga pekan ke depan. Tim Garuda Muda akan tampil dalam kualifikasi Piala AFC U-23 2020 dengan bergabung di Grup K, bersama Vietnam, Thailand, dan Brunei Darussalam.
